Fitness
NSW beep test & physical aptitude test
These are the current physical tests. Train well above the minimum: the tests are done in protective gear, and you'll need the fitness for recruit training.

| PAT stage 1 (untimed) | Reduced-visibility search and ladder simulation |
| PAT stage 2 | Jerry can carries, stair climb with jerry can, rescue tool holds, repeated hose drag (usually under 15 minutes) |
| PAT stage 3 | Fire attack simulation and firefighter rescue (usually under 2 minutes) |
| PPE | FRNSW PPE plus ankle weights; must be passed on the first attempt |
